Recent rumors that have emanated from Apple Computer suggest that they are close to completing a new offering in the form of a completely changed video iPod that will no longer have the omnipresent mechanical stick wheel but will now sport touch screens with a 3.5 inch crossways display. In the development stage from the time of the 5GB iPod having video display, the new video iPod will now have a display that will take up the entire front face of the device and this new display will have a digital click wheel that will appear on the touch screen by overlaying the touch-sensitive display every time a finger touches the screen and disappears when there is no longer anything touching the screen.
It is common knowledge that Apple does not develop the digital click wheel on its own and has outsourced its development to a couple of other companies, though it holds exclusive technology rights to this technology, thereby cutting any possibility of any inroads being made by competitors. In addition, this video iPod from Apple will also have the traditional connectivity because wireless technology has yet to be incorporated into this model.
Rumors or Reality?
Recent rumors may have fueled some speculation as to when exactly Apple would be launching its new video iPod and the reality of the situation is that whenever the video iPod gets launched, it will surely make a huge splash. The video iPod may be as thin as or even thinner than the 60GB iPod and its launch should take place around the same time that iTunes is overhauled to accommodate a larger catalogue of music and videos. But, one thing is for sure; the launch of the new video iPod will surely shake up the tree for portable mobile devices.
Some of the common features of a video iPod are its storage capacity, display mode, audio and video support, connectivity and software. Every video iPod carries with it the ability to convert the content for placing it on the device without losing any quality. Fifth generation video iPods do not support Divx, Xvid, Real, AVI, and in fact, only play MP4 and MOV files
The video iPod may be a fragile piece of equipment and so should be kept ensconced in a protective sheath, which would give it some added elegance that will enhance this already sleek and thin look. It can also provide a great deal of video entertainment especially for travelers who can watch their favorite movies even when aboard a plane. All in all, the video iPod is a piece of electronic wizardry that should keep their makers seeing plenty of money pouring in for years to come.
