Is it even possible to know which is the best MP3 player? They play music and many of them hold thousands of songs, and they hold thousands of photographs and now they even take pictures. Some of them will even hang right around your neck.

IRiver U10 is one of my favorites just because it is so much fun! The free games online might have something to do with that too. IRiver specs are like the list of ingredients in a gourmet dish. There are a lot of them!

SanDisk has a lot going on and probably has more than one best MP3 player. For one thing, they have some really reasonable prices, and this may be due in part to the company owning several factories that make the most expensive component, the flash drive. It has the most features of any inexpensive model on the market.

So there you have it: In the inexpensive category, the best MP3 player is the Scandisk Sansa 512 MB MP3 player - Blue. It even has an FM tuner and voice recorder and for 69.99, you can't go wrong with this one. Creative Labs Zen Nano Plus is right up there too as it comes in 10 colors, weighs less than an ounce and holds 500 songs in the 1G model. Now this is big: You can record audio form any source thanks to the line-in. It also goes for 69.99 so we might have to find a tiebreaker.

Which is the best MP3 player in the expensive category?

IRivers' U10 1G at 279.99 is definitely in the running, but Zen Vision: M might just take the envelope on this one. At 299.99, this best MP3 player is busy featuring a 15,000 song capacity and plays 120 hours of video on its 2.5 inch screen. It has an FM tuner, voice recorder; you can rip your CDs and connect it to your TV. The Zen Vision: M won CNETs choice award and it wins mine too.

If I had to choose one serious best MP3 player, it would be the Zen Vision: M, but I would probably still keep a couple of the cheaper one's around for the coke spilling klutzes. Dell's DJ Ditty and the SanDisk Sansa.

MP3 players are doing more and more. They're fun to play with, they're extremely convenient and they are cute! Most of them are very affordable and if it is your first one anyway, it's a good idea to get an inexpensive one because just by having one is what will teach you what you really want out of these gadgets. You don't want to spend $300 on your first one and then find out that there's one feature you can't live with or without. Play around first.
